We recommend replacing your tires when the wear bars are visible, or there is less than 1/16 of an inch of tread remaining. The “penny trick” works because the distance between the rim and Lincoln’s head is 1/16 of an inch — the minimum required tread depth. When your tire tread is lower than 1/16 of an inch, your vehicle may not have the handling or traction it needs for regular driving. Installing new tires can not only increase your car’s fuel efficiency, but it can also improve your car, truck, or SUVs’ handling, braking ability, and ride quality.
